When one's history is stolen or erased, it leaves a significant hole in the soul. Many African American gay men and women, finding themselves isolated from their families and the African American church, struggle with this loss of identity. They are often unaware that their sexuality was once celebrated and even lifted to a place of spiritual honor. The disconnect from this vibrant history exacerbates feelings of alienation and loss.
